Prepare Long Range Strategic Plan, Unit Manager
Description
Using the mission, vision, and values as well as any account and product / service business plans, prepare a long range (Strategic) plan that will identify key objectives and strategies to achieve the vision.
The long range plan looks at the following in the ideal state:
- The view of the clients and their needs
- Types of products, services, resources required
The gaps that need to be addressed to achieve the ideal state drive the setting of Objectives and strategies for the plan.
The plan focuses on a time frame one year or more from the date of preparing the plan.
NOTE: This activity may be included in Prepare Team Operating Plan where the long range plan and the one to two year plan do not differ much. In this case, the Team Operating Plan covers a longer time frame.

Long Range vs Annual Planning
For small businesses, startup situations or companies with end of life products and services, the long range plan may not provide significant value to the planning processes. In these cases, the focus for the Team Operating Plan - generally an annual plan may encompass both long range and annual objectives and strategies.
Where significant changes are required or the products and services have stabilised, then long range planning can provide value to the planning process. New products or sales strategies may need to be identified, new channels may need to be opened, or competition and other economic factors may need to be considered in the long range planning process. The planning for a sustainable future needs to be planned which may result in growth or contracting depending upon market conditions.
Short term changes will be handled through the evaluating business performance against the team operating plan. The results of these evaluations may result in long range planning activities outside of the normal planning calendar.
