Management Capabilities Overview

The basic management capabilities are based upon the activities of a manager and the additional activities of a leader. These are shown in the next picture:

Core Management Processes

The Core Management Processes provide support to managers to establish and maintain the enterprise and the organization. These processes are:

The Planning and Review process is our strategic planning and review process for the overall enterprise. This provides the overall visibility of our purpose, objectives / goals and products and services. This also forms the basis for our internal auditing and review capability.

The Continual Management System Improvement process establishes the overall approach to improvement and change within the enterprise. This includes the enterprise archtiecture and the requirements for change.

The Team Performance Management Process is used to manage the performance of a team at any level in the organization. This process is based upon the activities of a manager.

The People Development process manages the life cycle of a person within within the organization. includes both their assignments and their development.

The Procurement (Purchasing) process supports a manager acquire assets or resources needed to carry out the teams purpose.

The Programme Management process provides a way to handle major changes to the organization or within a contract. We have adopted Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) as our default process.

The Project Management process provides a way to create and manage a temporary team in support of a change programme, a specific change or a temporary team needed to support a contractual commitment. We have adopted PRINCE2 as our default process.

The Enterprise Architecture process establishes the current and future states of the enterprise. This allows all of the intermediate states to be identified and the changes identified and coordinated. This includes the archtiecture and design of people, organization and technology and uses a set of architecture frameworks. The Planning and Review and Enterprise Architecture processes work together to shape the overall plan.
