Unit Manager

Role Description

The Unit Manager is accountable for all aspects of the organisational unit's contribution to the business.  This includes the business direction, organisation, and operational needs.  The Unit Manager is responsible for setting the Objectives with the Unit Manager's Manager according to the time table in the business management calendar..

 

The Unit Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the management system is fully implemented within the organisational unit.

 

Responsibilities (Process Activities)

The Unit Manager is responsible for establishing and implementing the organisational unit's management System.

 

The unit manager is responsible for carrying out all of the Business Performance Management Activities for the Organisational unit.

 

In addition, the Unit Manager usually takes on the role of People Manager for direct reports and is responsible for ensuring that the People Management process is fully implemented within the organisational unit

 

Where items are acquired to ensure that the organisational unit is able to carry out its mission, the Unit Manager is responsible for ensuring that the relevant parts of the Purchasing Process are carried out.

 

The Core Work (value added) delivered by the organisational unit must also be defined within the organisational unit's management system.  In general, the processes for this work may already have been defined and have an assigned process manager.

 

Where a process manager is already identified, the Unit Manager works with the process manager(s) to implement the relevant processes within the organisational unit.

 

Where a process manager has not been identified, the Unit Manager works with the Quality Manager to identify the work necessary to establish and implement new processes for the organisational unit.
